With the notable exception of Westgate, terrorism incidents in Kenya have largely consisted of lobbed grenades and makeshift IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). The perpetrators have tended to be sympathetic to al-Shabaab’s ideology but unlikely to have direct ties to the group.
